You need a way to control it’s on or off state from software as well as having an appropriate safety switch.

No. Even if it was 10W (which it will not actually be as people already noted) I’ve worked with a 35W laser cutter. And that’s more like you are looking for, as it will be able to cut 3mm sheet fine. (could also cut 6mm, but not very pretty)
i got this on eBay it can’t even light a match, but its bright as hell
