hey guys im new to fastLED and i cant get it to work,

hey guys im new to fastLED and i cant get it to work, i am using WS2812 B & arduino micro, 4a 5V power source. the led stripe light up for a short time when connecting to the power, but nothing else happens. (independent of whether the arduino is connected or not)

is this a frequent problem?

pretty sure my wiring is correct: 5v & ground to the power source, the middle pin to arduino pin6 (i also connected ground of the power to ground of the arduino)

using FastLED version 3.001.003

this is my code
missing/deleted image from Google+

i tried
FastLED.addLeds<WS2812B, DATA_PIN>(leds, NUM_LEDS); instead, doesnt work either

so it kindof worked when connecting the data pin to the 2nd led, but after some loops the leds light up randomly

do i need some resistor somewhere?
i feel like im blowing one led controller after another

also they got very hot

The code is set to light up only the first 2 LEDs. Try running the demoreel test sketch. These led strips are designed to work only when connected to a microcontroller. So connecting only power and ground will not light them up.

pretty sure i just killed my stripe

There are some best practices to avoid damages. I just plugged in Power, ground data to my arduino without problems in my first Project. Maybe just luck.

well theres the problem i used neither a capacitor nor a resistor :frowning:

the first led in the strip has a 270 resistor, but i had it connected to the 2nd to test it, so it is propably blown

i bought this https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00H3IX1NK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1,
i can connect this directly to my arduino, right? it says controller integrated

ill order a new one and continue testing once it arrives :frowning:

but thank you for the help & tips

Try with the third pixel

i now tried almost all of them, nothing at all happens…

Here’s some tips:

Maybe your arduino is fried and not the strip?

got the new strip, used a resistor and everything is working fine, thank you guys for the help

Yeah ive never used either the resistor or the capacitor. But i always run my strips off of a 3.7V lipo so maybe thats why i havent fried them lol.
