Hey guys, I’m new to the group but I’m fairly experienced with DIY CNC systems and Linux CNC specifically. I’m lucky enough to work with a very powerful CNC toolchain at work (Autodesk Inventor -> Edgecam -> HAAS CNC) unfortunately for the hobbyist it costs about $20k per ‘seat’ hence my interest in the free (whether open source or not) alternatives.
At one stage I even went as far as to write a custom script to convert stl files to 5 axis g code for CNC porting. I’ll happily share my process and code with anyone who is interested but it is very rough and very application specific. I’m going to try post it to OpenCAMLib and see if anyone runs with it.
My personal preference for home is Linux CNC but honestly I just generate my Gcode at work using edgecam. Looking forward to hearing about everyone’s CNC projects
