Hey guys.  Is it possible to print from a LWO or LWS files.

Hey guys. Is it possible to print from a LWO or LWS files. Mainly things you find on Turbosquid. I know they are not solid models so I wasnt sure if it was at all possible without a lot of work.

Not unless you can convert them to STL somehow.

You’ll have to convert them to stl and they most likely won’t be manifold so the Stl may need to be repaired. In general, my experience of the models from turbosquid is that they are usually a mess of unjoined faces that won’t convert without loads of effort.

Beware, Some of those models are just flat planes with texture maps and totally useless for 3d printing. They are used in video games and animation where they just have to look reasonable but don’t have to be “solid”.

Yeah, one of the things 3d printer owners find out pretty quickly is that there is a huge distance between 3D models and 3D printable models. In many cases converting a model into a solid (printable) is more work than creating it from scratch.

Thanks guys. You are confirming what I have though. I did find this though. Still not sure how well it will work. http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?136671-3D-Printing-Lightwave-To-Shapeways-Tips
