Hey guys. So i backed the Prometheus System dual extruder on kickstarter, and when it arives i need to change my printrboard on my simple metal beacuse the revf doesnt support dual extrusion. Which should i go with? Im not a massive electronic guy, but im rather quick to learn and i just need a point in the right direction. (Any articles on conversion would be appreciated)
I just got a similar Y splitter item in along with a few Titans. I’m using my Cohesion3D ReMix board which actually supports triple extrusion - I’m thinking of putting in a chimera so I can do the full combo of a single direct drive and the Y flipper into the other slot via these bowdens.
Anyways, you’d be upgrading to the 32 bit motion performance of smoothie and have the capability to add even a 3rd extruder, as well as a bunch of powerful MOSFETs including a 20 amp heatbed one. @Griffin_Paquette and I have quite a bit of printrbot experience between us.

I vouch for a controller upgrade but there are two expansion ports on the printrboard and I know that Printrbot used to do an upgrade for it. Not anymore but it’s probably still doable.
@raykholo do you know of any articles or instructions to help with this change ive never done this b4. Or would it just be plug everything into the new board and put the same firmware on?
@Matthew_Del_Rosso Printrbot has all their configuration information for their printers found here: https://printrbot.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202227454-Default-Steps-Per-Millimeter
In addition to that, when in your printing program (pronterface, cura, etc, all other settings can be found my typing M501. I would copy these on a separate sheet as you use them in the smoothie portion.
All smoothieware compatible board configurations are done through a simple .txt file found on an sd card. You can read about the configuration here: http://smoothieware.org/configuring-smoothie. This is where you edit any and all configurations for the printer.
@raykholo 's remix is a great option for this and if you decide to upgrade to something like a diamond hotend in the future, it has an extra port for it.
If you have any other questions we’ll be happy to help you out.

@Griffin_Paquette ok, its pretty simple then. Just get my printers info and put it on the sd card?
@Matthew_Del_Rosso pretty much! Just plug em in where they correspond. Oh you will need to configure the thermistors but that’s done pretty easily. Just depends on the thermistors.
@Griffin_Paquette ok thanks! I always over think these things.
