Hey guys this is my first print from my brand new Tronxy X5S. Actually its one my first prints ever. Could you look at this picture and tell me if the extrusion lines are as they should be or if my expectations are incorrect?
The picture is of the first layer of a PLA print, the nozzle is .4mm.
I would expect that each extrusion line would flow into each adjacent line as can be seen on the outer perimeter. but for some reason Cura will not lay extrusions lines down were they touch unless its an outer Z dimension feature.
Am I wrong to think that I should expect this?
If I should, what can I do?
Usually this kind of dual-line bunching is caused by backlash, or the hot end itself not being 100% secure on its mount. General advice is just to check everything, make sure it’s tight. Make sure belts aren’t drooping, make sure pulleys driving belts are tightened down, make sure hot end isn’t wobbling in its mount.
You may be under extruding as well.
@ThantiK I just when over every belt they are very tight they twang. I also rotated the print to see if some loosnes would show a diferent effect but same. I’m probably going to have to calibrate the flow. if its under extrusion?
It makes sense that I’m under extruding. This is a picture of the top layer of the print and as can be seen they too don’t touch side by side. Now the only problem is were the setting is and how not to mess it up. I’m using the latest version of Cura 3.0.4 .

@ThantiK
If it were backlash how would you address it ? I only know about belt tension as an adjustment. Backlash is a systemic gape in gear teeth mesh; is it also present in the belt, or is it coming from stepper motor Driver?
@TheSageBen Also make sure your hot end isn’t wobbling. I’m not exactly sure what the cause is on yours. It’s not just happening on the first layer, it’s Every layer.
