Hey guys, thought I’d share something that we’ve been working on for a while now.
This is the Deltaprintr. It’s a simple design for a delta printer that uses spectra fishing line instead of belts. This, along with its simple design helps us lower down the cost to produce a delta printer. We’re launching on kickstarter sometime around october/november. If you’re interested then check out the site http://www.deltaprintr.com for more info.
We’ll also be at Makerfaire NY September 21-22 if anyone wants to check it out in person
Nope, it’s a deltaprintr The only similarity may be the carriages, but not really since the kossel’s extruded aluminum beams are rotated 45 degrees. This is the first baltic birch lasercut delta printer of its kind.
The problem with spectra is it stretches over time, needing tightening every few weeks, and then the delta needs re calibration everytime you tighten. I’ve been printing with a Spectra driven delta for the last 6 months. Thinking of switching back to belts as I’m getting tired of having to recalibrate so often.
Hi Jim, I’ve tightened the spectra maybe three times in the beginning until it settled in. The top pulleys on our deltaprintr have a tightening mechanism. The deltaprintr doesn’t need any manual screw calibration. We are going to offer automatic calibration.
It’s very pretty. and I’ll bet it’s very quiet? I have a filament driven deltabot which after about 2 weeks the filament settled in and is now fully tensioned without need for more adjustment. I do have a quick question on the photograph. Those aren’t the actual arms it will be using right? They seem pretty short.
@Justin_Hawkins Yes everything will be open source. We are designing our own electronics to fit a plastic controller case enclosure to our custom specs that we need.
