Hi all!

A cool competition by Heijmans (admittedly, with support from DUS architects and 3D Hubs) for all of you who know, like to, design for 3D printing.

#3DPRINTFACADE. Goal is to design and print a 3D tile for walls (like IXXI’s but then in 3D). Winner will get her-/himself a wall in the 3D Printed Canal House in Amsterdam, so that’s pretty sweet.

Personally think this is pretty cool. cheers!

What the H*ll. Why would anyone want to print a tile standing up?

Better resolution of the design on the front of the tile.

@Ryan_Hescock_Stanos true that. It sounds counter intuitive @Rien_Stouten but printing these kind of things, like phone cases for example, print a lot better standing up

Okay…That’sthe weirdest thing I’ve heard today. So you should limit the possible design itself? That’s worth it?

@Rien_Stouten if the design dictates that it will be best to print in a specific orientation then so be it. For most of the designs however you are going to get a much nicer finish by printing it standing up.

@Nathan_Walkner exactly right. A bit strange for a design contest to want this.
