After the smartrap and its all printed structure , this is an evolution : coreXY made cheap and good !
The main idea is to use the world’s workshop network to make the box with local cut wood. The design is made so there is no complicated operation to do on the wood but simple hand drilled holes.
This is a full openjscad script, so we won’t be annoyed anymore with all those options like rod’s sizes, printable size, belts or fishing lines, etc…etc…
I’m very happy with this solution so far ( even if the rendering of the all printer is quiet long…be patient
Also, the script is still buggy with some options, but upates are coming fast .
Evolution from a smartrap will be very easy and will need 4 bearings, some belt and…the wood for the box.
We will in future propose metal boxes as an option.
I have been thinking about something like this for about month or two… I was even going to build modified replicator with bigger print volume, but its still a bit expensive Cant wait for real pics and video!
It’s not ready for production I’m just about to build the first proto today… but if you feel like "very"adventurous…you can of course
I will post when it’s ready to load and print parts.
The final jscad page will be on http://smartfriendz.com because i need to recode some parts to have informations about wood dimensions and rods lengths from parameters people choose.
Also parts from openjscad need to pass in netfabb basic to make then clean. It looks like there’s some faces missing or not closed.
Have you looked into the Sli3DR mechanism? It uses the same rod/axis configuration but decouples the motors so that they each control a single axis! It also has a REALLY good Z axis design.
Edit: Here’s the link… http://richrap.blogspot.com/search/label/Sli3DR
Thx matthew, I know this great project , wonderful work.
I choose the coreXY for a base system because it’s already well known and firmwares are implementing it already. But those boxes are of course open to any configuration we want to try… I hope with a little time I will code a few …even a morgan XY . It’s good to try
The design constraints here are a little different as I want a very easy to build, small printed parts , and ready for production printer.
The Z axis of the sli3dr is indeed really good. I’m trying to implement a double axis version too.
Yes Yannis, the model just had a big evolution , from the first one. It’s in youmagine with another file (0.9.1) . I will soon build it and make new videos.
I think we have a version now .
ho ! that’s great congrats !
I have two working verions here and I must admit it works better than i would think after the smartrap model. I think we will switch little by little to this one. The build process is more simple an the results are already better IMO.
For the new version, i miss an inductive sensor and to finishthe openjscad to get out the right plates.
thank you for your feedback
