Hi all! I just finished building a Prusa i3 variant and would like to start parts for another printer. Which reprap printer would be a good one to build?

My printer of choice after building an i3 was Delta rostock.

I’m working on a Mendel90-ish design with improved precision.

Cool; Thank you. I am going to check those out.

I believe RichRap designed the 3DR (delta) and Sli3DR (H-Bot Varient) to both be primarily 3D printed. Little to no laser cut pieces.

Very cool I am looking at his blog now.

For printing parts would you recommend sticking with ABS, or can PLA be used?

I’ve used PLA printed parts for the last four years and it works fine, but you need a fan to avoid melting the extruder cold parts, so at least some ABS parts might be a good idea. I’m testing it myself now, but I find ABS harder to print well.

What temperature do you find give you the best prints with PLA. I am doing 190 for initial layers and dropping down to 185. Do you think that is good temp for solid parts? still learning and experimenting with slic3r.

@John_Santiago RepRap Neo has a good process on YouTube for finding a temperature for your filament.

190/185 sounds fine. I do 200-210 for all layers on PLA, but it heavily depends on the batch of filament. Some can be extruded even as low as 145 at slow speeds, which is what I’ve set my prevent dangerous extrude temperature to.

Thank you Peter.
