Hi all! I plan to cut bottom chassie and top deck plates from aluminium (5mm, PA6) on waterjet. is it good idea or not?
I did lasercut the bottom plate for the OpenRC touring car in 3mm alu and it worked out great. I think 5mm might be a bit thick and add unnecessary weight… Thoughts?
If you do, could you please do one more set for me too?
@Szymon_Kobalczyk no problem
at the moment I’ve got only 5mm. but I can easily source 4mm (like in project) or even 3mm.
so I have to prepare some DXF files for inquiries…
@Benjamin_Groves cut one recently so he might have the DXF ready.
Actually I found the file on disk if you want. And here is another one https://www.dropbox.com/s/tdol7irgpapw15f/Chassie_Plate_A.0.cdr. Not sure if it is up to date though.
yeah, I saw it. but he mentioned that he cut the wrong one… (don’t know what it means). and I need top deck (in one piece
and I found DWG file in “old_files.zip” on grabcad/youmagine/etc - have to check how it compares to latest 3d models
When you have the files ready I can send it to a laser shop here too. They cut the 3D printer alu frames for me.
I have access to a waterjet as well if anyone ever wants stuff done. I just have to pay for the machine time.

Hi all -
I shared the source and .stl files for the chassis plate I made - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31076513/CHASSIS-PLATE.zip - This is based off of the GitGub version of the OpenRC Truggy
-
It has an extra centimeter in front with two holes for a bumper mount (I am deviating from putting it under the front differential)
-
There are a few variations with chamfered / straight holes and filleted edges - We weren’t sure what we would face with the milling machine at the time
-
[later edit] Also note, these file are for a 1/8-inch piece of aluminum. I printed thinner chassis plates to shim the rest of the height and add some color
Hope it helps.
