Hi All
I’m after some thoughts on a 3d Controller board, I have designed a core xy machine with bed mesh leveling filament runout sensor , + a few extra goodies , tested on a ramps v1.4 but is barely up to the job now…
So my 2 choices are the smoothie board or the Duet , has anyone got any good bad or ugly comments about either … ?
I would go for a smoothiware compatible board. Personally more of a fan. @raykholo makes the Cohesion3D line of Smoothieware compatible boards which would allow you to swap in whatever drivers you want (including the Trinamic 2100’s) which is what convinced me to go with his mini a while back. No bad comments on the duet but I have not personally tried it. Really enjoyed Smoothieware since I started using it.
Duet Wifi and just-released Duet Ethernet are great boards. The web interface is a great feature. With Smoothieware it really depends on which board you mean, the Genuine Smoothieboards are good if you buy one with connectors pre-soldered, the Azteeg x5 is good, Cohesion3d, etc. Different driver options and features on each so you need to figure out what you want.
What I don’t recommend is one of the knock-off Smoothie-compatible boards like MKS SBASE or ASZM-whatever. They have issues and basically steal from the open-source community.
Avoid anything with 8825 drivers.
I had not come across the Cohesion3D Remix before looks interesting like how you can add your own drivers and also has wifi as a bit of a bonus… I’m running 8825 drivers at the moment
@Mark_Bridgewater a Remix with Trinamic drivers if pretty much futureproof in my opinion. 6 drivers, a ton of mosfets, ethernet, LCD. Had it been an option when I was ordering mine I would’ve spent the extra money for it.
I use a RADDS/due combo, and if I did it again I’d go Duet Wifi for sure. Smoothie sounds great, I’ve just never used it. Note, I really enjoy RepRap Firmware, it’s been both the most full featured and easiest to use compared to Marlin/Repetier.
At the moment carnt see why not to go for the remix lots of extra i/o and can use any steooer drivers i like … was there some one in this thread that was producing the pcb’s
Be fore the swap to the new controller
