Hi all. Running a homebuilt c-bot with Duetwifi board, direct drive Titan extruder and E3d volcano 0.6mm nozzle.

Have ripples on the prints. Have tried so far:

  1. put a twist in the belts so only flat side runs against the bearings. Helped a bit and removed the 2mm pitch ripple. White print is before twist was added.
  2. changed the microstepping from x16 to x64 for X and Y. That improved things a bit. In photo the black print on the left is x16 and shows the worst ripple.

Any other ideas on how to remove ripple totally? I didn’t have this ripple on an earlier build of the same machine with RAMPS board so hunch is it must be a setting issue…

Thanks

Eric Pavey had a similar issue a while back and it turned out that the pid on the heatbed was causing it. can you try to autotune the pid on heatbed or try to print with heatbed switched off?

Make absolutely sure the bed is not shaking (film using close up high speed camera).

Use toothed idler instead of bearings /twisted belts. They are cheap from China.

If you can’t fix mechanics, lower acceleration and jerk.

Looks like mechanical looseness to me.

I tightened all the slide bearings and some improvement. Main cause seems to be swapping extruder stepper for a smaller pancake stepper from E3d. Played with current but either too hot or not enough force. Old bigger one reduces ripple effect significantly.

Also changed nozzle to new one, thought it might be partially blocked…

for me it seems, that the layer height is too big, for a 0.6 nozzle try with max 0.3 layer size
