Hi community, I'm kind of new to Laserweb.

Hi community,

I’m kind of new to Laserweb. The build of my LED laser took way longer than expected and so I was only able to get it running yesterday. I run it on a PI3 connecting to a Smoothieboard.

After some trying here and there it’s basically running and all works well.

Unfortunately I couldn’t wrap my head around how Laserweb acts technically yet. I was expecting it works somehow like Octoprint or Repetier Server in the 3D Printing area. Both programs run on the server and display a webfrontend to the user to control, start jobs etc.

From what I noticed with LaserWeb4 so far is that actually all settings are stored to the browser locally. I’m sure there’s a way to change this as it doesn’t seem to make much sense to me to tigh settings to the browser while they are for a machine that maybe used from different browsers.

Apart from that I only can see it’s really an awesome piece of software that got me up and burning some wood within only a few hours! Thank you all for your work!

LaserWeb is a stand alone app and settings are stored there. You can export then and load the in another computer.
To use a remote connection you’ll need an Rpi to load the server and the connect from the computer to it but still all setting will be on the computer and not the server. The server will only act as the connection to the machine

oh so it’s really how I first experienced it. Really strange, I haven’t seen it done this way before. Why did you choose it that way? The weird thing is that I have to save and load settings every time I probably switch computers or I have to remember which one I last used to make sure settings are the latest. Seems weird to me and somehow loses some advantage of having a Pi in there instead of just connecting a USB cable to a computer.

I think one of the reasons is safety. You don’t want to be in the other room leaving the laser tunning. 3DP are much safer in that regard.

Now this is not the only reason and many changes could be made but the project need more developers to fulfill dreams

It simplified development, plus the front end can run without a back end e.g. at https://laserweb.github.io/LaserWeb4
