Due to the many interesting items listed here from AliExpress, I just place my first order with them for some WS2812b rings. The order was canceled due to security reasons until I send them a picture of my driver’s license and a picture of the credit card that I used.
Is this a typical request for first time buyers using AliExpress?
I have never encountered this type of request. In light of ID theft, I thought I would check this out with the FastLED group and find out if this is a normal request from them before I send them the requested pictures.
The rings were ordered from gc-supermarket electronic and one is located at:
I had to log in to AliExpress to click on the “want to appeal” button for my order. Here is the webpage partial address (I did not copy my order id) on AliExpress:
@Jason_Coon My order was to the same place that you ordered the ring from.
@Luminous_Elements I am not sure who requested the ID information since it did not say. On the webpage on the AliExpress appeal page, there are two buttons for each information request, One is to choose a file to upload and the other is to upload the file. Since I did not choose anything to upload it did not show a link for the upload button.
Too bad AliExpress does not accept PayPal.
Thanks for everyone’s responses. Tomorrow, I will try to contact AliExpress to clear this up and I will let you what happens.
Well, it is off to work. I have to give two final exams for the chemistry classes that I teach.
This sounds like a fairly recent aliexpress mechanism for new customers. I can only assume that they’ve experienced a lot of fraud and are trying to put mechanisms in place to reduce it. Some/many of us have probably just been grandfathered in and never encountered that.
