Hi everyone.

I am building a large format cartesian 3d printer, inspired by the Rigidbot.

Writing a little blog on it, if anyone is interested in reading about the project.

Rigidbot isn’t that good of a design. If you want a large build area, the bed should be z only.

Making the top cross peice out of two sections looks like it will add unwanted flex or movement on the Z axis. I’m sure you will be able to fix that by making it one peice like the i3 design, good luck with the project.

Thanks… I am worried about flex, hopefully I can engineer it out.

@Jonathan_MacWilliams With a good frame this should work out well for you. I have a 12 x 16 x 14 tall dual head printer in this style and it is rock solid. With well machined components making everything parallel leveling the bed and aligning the print heads was straight forward and came out perfect. Even with 4 spools of filament on the spooler rack I get no movement in the frame. I printed a 14" tall Eiffel tower and the top (where you would expect the most wobble) is perfect.

I can guarantee that you will learn a lot with this project.
