Hi everyone!! Just wondering if anybody has use Cut2D with Shapeoko??

Thanks!

I have it, and designed that router mount on it, and it SHOULD work, but I did not have time to figure out the correct post processor before the owner came and picked up the Shapeoko machine.

P.S> I can send you the g-code that was produced with my MACH3 post processor, and you can try it.

@Bruce_Lunde that would b great Bruce! The price for the program’s not bad… It it looks really simple to use. My email is: javier@guerrilladrone.com :slight_smile:

Thanks u!!

PM sent with attachments!

I downloaded their trial over a year ago. It seemed really straight forward. Good luck with it and let us know if you get it and it works.

@Marc_Schaefermeyer yo Marc! So here’s the update about my SVG files and makercam… I had to change the resolution to every single one of my files within makercam to make it match the proper scale… An other issue was: gcode saved from makercam did not import the tabs :frowning: unless I forgot about something…

@Bruce_Lunde thanks Bruce!! I’ll try executing the file with Shapeoko and let u know what happens… Thanks for ur help!! :slight_smile:

My guess is that it was probably a miscalculation of the tabs. I think you need to just double the size (width not height) of them and try again. Remember that you can move (drag) the tabs around as well.

@Marc_Schaefermeyer ah! So it won’t read .0626 tabs??

I believe that it doesn’t take into consideration the bit diameter. So I always make my tabs the bit diameter + the size of my desired tab.
So a .0626 tab would be .1876 for a .125 bit.

Oh, so the tab size has to be greater then the diameter?? Wait a minute! I used a 1/32" bit and added 1/16" tabs (height and width)

Interesting… Well… that should have worked then.

@Marc_Schaefermeyer I might of mess something

Inventables has a Shapeoko (or just GRBL compatible) post processor for Cut2d on their website

Makes things a lot nicer to not have to tweak the Gcode after you generate it.

@Royce_Meredith
I’ve been using GRBL, I like it so far… The problem I’m having is finding the right software to do it… with Cut2d I pretty much HAVE to purchase the software to be able to test one of my part… :frowning:

What process do you use?

I have been using Cut2d for almost my whole CNC workflow. Occasionally I will use Inkscape to draw stuff or to open SVG files to convert to DXF. Unfortunately there are no good free CAM programs out there. I used to use Inkscape and Makercam and that worked pretty well also I would recommend F-engrave, its free and does a pretty good job at engraving. I truly love the ease of use of Cut2d and the ability to create a part and generate Gcode quickly. I really do hope that someone steps up to bring the CNC community a well thought out FREE CAM software package. I get that its not easy and it would take quite a bit of time, but I’m sure somewhere there is someone who would be willing to put in the time. If I had the knowledge I would do it myself but programming is an area that I have less than rudimentary knowledge. Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck in your search.

@Royce_Meredith Have you looked at HeeksCNC, combo CAD and CAM, and is free.

@Royce_Meredith
Hi Royce! Thanks for your advice… I’ll probably give Cut2d a shot, it seems like it will work better for my work flow:

AutoCad - DXF
Cut2D - gCode
GRBL - CNC

It will save the hassle of the SVG conversion process… :slight_smile:
