Hi everyone! This is my first post in the group.
What’s the limiting factors for min/max layer thickness in Additive Manufacturing? I’m researching SLS/SLS/DMLS/SLM/Materila Jetting so I’m just looking some general info really.
I’m guessing for the max thickness the power of the laser will limit the ability to sinter/melt certain layer thicknesses?
What about the minimum layer thickness though? Again, is this the power of the laser, e.g. will the laser be too over-powered and over heat the powder and produce a poor melt?
And also, the porosity could be a design requirement which will limit the max layer thickness. I understand other design requirements like better aesthetics (smaller layer thickness) and shorter build times (larger layer thickness) but what machine/material/process characteristics limit the available range? e.g. 0.02-0.1mm. But what ultimately limits the range?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
