Hi folks, I've been working on a Kickstarter project for awhile now (the last

@dougal I don’t unfortunately. But if you shoot me an email at stephen.co@northern-circuits.ca, I would be happy to personally reach you on the day of launch (even just to spread the message too if you don’t end up pledging!).

Absolutely amazing!

It is really nice, good work. What kind of electromagnetic valve can be operated at 80 Hz without significant noise?

@Jiri_Sitera I use a DC holding electromagnet combined with a spring mechanism. The noise level is basically zero as long as you have sound dampeners at the base.

Shameless plug, but I officially launched the campaign just under an hour ago! You can find it here:

Let me know what you all think! And if pledging isn’t an option, I’d be eternally grateful even for social media shares!

I’ve just backed it

What would be really neat would be see some type of interpretation of FastLED Fire Effect… “Hot water” ? lol

Thank you all for the support! I already see pledges from the folks here and it warms my heart

@Jon_Bruno I’ve actually experimented with creating a fire pattern of sorts. Lava Flow was the name I gave it but it didn’t make the cut into the default patterns list (though it still might!).

Thank you for including a “Design Files/Source Code” pledge option for us tinkerers! I instantly pledged after seeing that! Awesome work, thanks for sharing!

Yup. I’m in for the design files and code! I’m actually working on the simpler “levitating water” design right now. Really looking forward to attempting one of these! Hope you get lots of buyers for the ready-made ones.

I’m really bummed that this project is now going to be postponed by months because some of the backers feel it needs to be wifi-enabled. One of them complained that it was “anachronistic to have a piece of science and art merged in the best sci-fi style that lacks basic connectivity.” Seriously?

Of course, I’m just a $20 backer hoping to build my own, so I guess Stephen needs to cater to the folks putting up the big bucks. I still think the idea that a kinetic sculpture “needs” to be wifi enabled in order to be worthwhile is silly.

@Karl_Tinsley , Don’t worry Karl! I just posted a comment there to hopefully alleviate any concerns. If in the next few days I determine that the feature significantly affects the schedule, I will forego it and instead provide the design files/source code for the WIP on top of the original design files/source code. All backers, regardless of $ value, are in my purview.

@Stephen_Co Hey Stephen thanks for the reply! I’m glad to hear how you plan to handle it.

It’s quite easy to add an ESP8266 to run the WiFi front end and then communicate with the nano clone via serial. The easytransfer library works on both platforms. It’s not the fastest solution but very easy.

Well done! Beautiful!

Great piece of art using programing and electronics as well as water. Beautiful!

Wowww - beautiful concept and fantastic execution!
