Hi folks maybe you can give me some advice, I try to find infos online, but was not successful.

I ordered for our school from MachinableWax some nice wax filament, for casting bigger in bronze and silver (using 3D printed wax designs) …
The company advise to print at 135-140c. Celsius. After getting our “Printrbot Metal Plus” ready, I found out that Cura is telling me “cold extrusion prevented” !

QUESTION:

  • Is there a easy option to “disable” cold extrusion prevention ?
  • What else can I do to get the Printrbot printing in low temperature ?
  • If not what other (cheaper) printer could I buy, to print low temperature ?

I also wroth the team from Printrbot, asking them the same question, the answer which came back was as followed =
I apologize for the late reply, unfortunately there is not an easy way to stop the cold extrusion for low temp filament. The lowest temp that will not cause a “cold extrusion” would be 170C

Thanks for help
Best
Frank

I believe you can use an M302 GCode to enable cold extrudes.

You can also lower the minimum extrusion temperature.

Thx for both of your answers, I will try …

I imagine a fan would be a good idea. Just a guess.

Hi @NathanielStenzel to problem is not the cooling itself, but the Printerbot “board” is not allowing to go below 170c. to prevent from cold extrusion. This what Cura software is telling me, if I like to print.

@Frank_Zottel I think the other two mentioned how to take care of that part of your problem. After that, I would recommend a fan.

Yes that’s correct thank you.

If you can’t change the software behavior, but can hack the hardware, you could put a resister in parallel with the extruders thermister, a value chosen so that when it was at 135, the control board was seeing resistances that suggested it was actually at 170. [If I remember correctly, a thermisters resistance goes down with increasing temperature, hence a resister in parallel].
