hi guy
here is the new design i’m working on

printing dimension 200x200x200
double resolution gt2 for z axis
step file on my website
stl soon

Awesome

Hi it looks nice and clearly a lot of time spent designing it. But I think you’re over thinking the z axis. Way complicated belt setup and if there is any free play the beds not going to move level. Also as someone pointed out on the smartrap if you lose power the beds going to drop, I’ve tried a similar setup with one leadscrew on the one side and a pulley system to level the other end. In the end I gave up and put 2 leadscrews. I think you may do better with 2 screws with pulleys and a closed belt to 1 motor. Something else if found the bearings on the x axis I’ve switched from 4 lm8uu to 2 longer ones you get them 45mm long instead of 2x 25mm ones the single bearing per shaft moves much smoother.

thanks michael
it was a desire to try something else for the z axis

@Fabrice_fabrap love the detailed design. Need to spend some time to go over it more. I did similar h-bot design, then went to corexy after a while due to racking issues. My best piece of advice… Stiffen up things at the corner carriage that travels along the side Y axis rods perpendicular to that travel. You will be glad you did.

@Fabrice_fabrap
Very nice and funny at the same time!
Why? Simply because I’m working on a similar z axis at the moment and wondered why I’ve never seen this before. I’m happy to see a printer now

Can you share some experience regarding this system? Any problems so far? How is the resolution and repeatability?
Do you use some kind of auto leveling?

i only build the alpha version. i will build this final version soon and will report after (sorry)
from what i read on the net, resolution with z belt is enough and repetability too
i don’t use auto leveling on my machines. it is easy to level with the screw under the bed
and it doesn’t change after that. adding those z inductive switch on the carriage will add more weight to the carriage

@Fabrice_fabrap i agree with the autoleveling, once its done its done.

final version is out
with a better z axis (doubled resolution, one stepper)

@Fabrice_fabrap great to see it running. Nice work.
