Hi Guys, I am a newbie at CNC work.

Hi Guys, I am a newbie at CNC work. I have an R7 but I am having issues with calculating the rpms I should be running my bit at. I am trying to cut plywood with a 1/4 2 flute upcut bit. Feed Rate: 30 in/min, RPM 10,000 with a stepdown of .1 in. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but it always seems to wanna start a fire :frowning:

Hi Reyes, that sounds like extreme rubbing.
I think all here will tell you feeds and speeds is an art that takes time to develop.
If an end mill is properly loaded it is using the power of the spindle, getting a proper chip load on the flute and progressing through the material in a beautiful balance.
Maybe try, lowering the RPMs or increasing DoC or increasing travel speed.

All of the things Brandon mentioned will make larger chips. There is a sweet spot where the chips are large enough to carry heat away but not so large it bogs the motor.
