Hi Guys I am a software engineer in Sydney,

Hi Guys
I am a software engineer in Sydney, Australia with a passion for all things opensource - especially including Reprap Printers

I am faced with a bit of a dilema…
I am so so so keen to buy a Reprap Prusa Mendel 3D printer, but am faced with the problem of not having enough space n my own home, and if I did, my partner wont allow me to keep it in our home.

Does anyone out there know of any place - maybe a hackerspace close to Sydney CBD area that I can actually have this kit hosted?
I will gladly lend the use out to anyone who wants to use it - they would only have to pay for their own plastic filaments

I live in Surry Hills, and I don’t drive, so anywhere local to there would be great for me

so please, if anyone knows of anyone I can get in contact with, that would be a great start for me

Thanks

Matt

Why not go for a prusa mendel? They’re smaller and cheaper. And then you still have the huxley or the printerbot. All of those are small and easy to fit on your desk or a small shelf

Yeah, even with the smaller versions I won’t be able to keep it on my home desk, my partner Will go crazy lol. I’m not totally up to speed in namings though. I just know Mendel is a good opensource printer

just opinion, why don’t you use online 3d printing service? just googling

Simple answer to that really, I am a gadget freak, and a control freak, and I just love to try everything myself. I would be in heaven once I get my own one :)
Also I haven’t yet found a sensibly priced 3D printing service in Sydney
I think at this moment, while these services are new, people are taking advantage of being able to charge well over their cost prices

If my partner made me choose between her and my 3d printer, I’d let the door hit her on the way out. Bye bye.

Lol

U could get a buccaneer
It’s got a very apple like look
U can order in dec
It’s also got a air filter

apple-like? no thank you - I’m trying to avaoid anything that looks remotely Apple-like - I have that company, with a passion
though it looks like an attractive piece of kit - and cloud-printing is interesting too

A small kossel mini is good
You could do it with open builds vrail and fully enclose it

and all these things are open-source? including the 3d-printable parts and the software that runs on linux machines?
I ask because I only use linux, and don’t run windows or macos

Lol I’m a open source guy as well
Kossel mini is totally open source and is on github

If u use open builds its also open source

the filament feederin the buccaneer looks awesome too, just slots in nicely
I love that idea

The guys are good
Talked to them quite a bit
I bought one as by backup printer
For my kossel

cool, now I’m feeling drawn towards the Kossel mini.
do you know where I can buy the complete kit? I know I could get all the parts together and build one myself, but I’m just to damned lazy for that

Can post the links when I get back

thanks m8
