Hi guys! I would like to show you one of the projects I’ve been working on recently using FastLED. These panels for me where primarily an exploration of light aeshetics and how to construct triangular shaped LED panels. This worked towards another (interactive) prototype that I will show you later this week. But I had some spare time this weekend so I connected the teensy that controls these panels to Ableton Live, and made some nice visuals with some newly programmed light functions. The track is Ana Bola by Secret Cinema and Peter Horrevorts
I would love to hear what you think about it, and I’m also willing to share the code if anyone is interested!
It’s not really well explained using comments, I will try to do that when I have more time. But generally you see there are 20 cases that trigger 20 different visualisations. Some of them can be seen in the video, but a lot of them aren’t shown, so for you to discover All functions work with XY-matrix mapping, yet this code uses a different XY-mapping algorithm for triangular shapes, so you can just change that if you use an rectangular setup. I’ll post more about the wiring and stuff later!
Very interesting! I’m wondering about the symmetry- it seems like they are both playing the same animation simultaneously but the triangle on the left has a few more pixels lit in the vertical flash for instance. Is that by design or are they reacting to the sound?
@Charity_Stolarz it’s not intended to do that. The left triangle should show exactly the same as the right in most cases. It gets the same pixel information, but for strip 5&6 (right is 1&2). For some reason however I cant get the blur functions working on the left panel. So if anyone has an idea how to solve this, i would love to hear it
@Charity_Stolarz I use a teensy 3.2 with octows2811 adaptor, so the right one uses the first RJ45 output with strips 1&2, and the left uses the second RJ45 with strips 5&6. Everything works correctly, except for blur-functions. But I will make some illustrations soon to show how it works and how it is connected, maybe that will shed some light on the problem!
