Hi guys. I'd like to edit Central Diff Case in Solidworks 2014.

Hi guys.

I’d like to edit Central Diff Case in Solidworks 2014.
I’m having issues with feature recognition. It says that part has rebuild errors and feature recognition fails. Does anybody has an idea how to import the stp to Solidworks? I really do not want to draw such complex part from scratch.

Generally speaking, feature recognition isn’t worth your time. However, the imported .stp geometry is a solid model therefore you can add features to it (cuts, extrudes etc.) or use the move face command. Move face can get a little wonky though. Sometimes I cut away geometry that I don’t want to deal with and reattach my own to it after.

yeah I have the same issue and I am not a pro in Solidworks

Ben your tip is interessting, can you develop or show us may be ?.. anyway I will try tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. It actually does work. It’s annoying that there seems to be no good file standard? If I’m not using the same application that the author of the original file did, I have to do alot of extra work.

I had very good success by opening the complete STP file with freecad and exporting the part I want to edit as another STP file and opening that with solidworks… It seems to find most of the important features… Is like to get my hands on the original solidworks files though lol

@Ben_Malcheski i work with solid works 2013 on a all day everyday. From my experience feature recognition is not worth it. it can be useful for parts that were exported from a multi body solidworks part but i haven’t had much luck with it.
