Hi guys,
I’m trying to print the gears with nylon taulman 485 but i have bad results. I don’t know if is for the slicer config, but i have a little thread, and for this, the gears are not good. I have put a retraction of 5 mm and it should be enough. Can you tell me or upload what config do you use for the taulman 485?
Thanks
Hi
I think you will get more correct responses if you post your question to your printer related forum. I use xt-polyester from colorfabb and I also got not a totally perfect result. I use 260 degrees nozzle temperature on ultimaker2. It takes time and effort to get good results.
Hi Boris,
I was trying this for some days. I use a P3Steel with the new fuser E3DV6, that give me a good results with all the materials (ABS, Ninjaflex, Laywood) but i don’t understand what happens with the nylon. I set the melt temperature to 220º, because I think that with more temperature, i will have more dripping, and I’m printing to 30mm/s.
I have seen printings on nylon 485 that have the same results that in ABS, and I don’t know what else I can try to have a good piece.
Have you dried the filament? Nylon absorbs water and if the moisture content is too high, it will sputter and pop, causing extrusion issues.
Yes, I put de spool to 100 degrees around 2 hours. I think that probably the melt temperature (i,m using 210 220 degrees) is a bit low. After work i will try with 245 or 250 degrees that is the recomended temperature.
I’ll keep you informed.
Thanks!
Comfirmed! The problem was the low temperature. I print with a perfect results at 250 degrees!
Thanks guys!
Glad you solved it. I would be interested looking at your prints of the Differential parts. Those small gears, I cannot make them really right, feels like they are missing resolution/quality and wont be functioning properly.
Hey Boris… I had some problems with the small gears of the differentials. I cannot get a good result and finally I have bought the metal differentials. With the resolution of the small gears there seems impossible that the differential works right. I think that nylon is not the best material for the small gears, and may be another material of taulman that is more strength should be better.
Do you try another one?
Yes I have tried and tried and still not getting perfect ones. I get different results with different color of the same material. Must be the coloring that does it.
I will keep on perfecting it, I think it is possible. If Daniel did it on Makerbot then it should be doable on Ultimaker2.
Another options is to order it to be made by professional 3d printers by ordering from shapeways or alike.
Josep I gave up on printing the small gears. Where did you order metal ones, can you give me a link? Thanks!
Hey Boris! I bought all the parts described in “http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:162810” page in Ebay. The most things I bought in this ebay shop: http://www.ebay.es/usr/blacksmithproducts?_trksid=p2047675.l2559.
If you need more info don’t doubt to tell me!!!
