Hi. I am new here. I´m from Mexico. Sorry my bad english. I am building a 7x14 matrix, to start testing the FastLED, library. I want help to place the LED’s on the grid, I was reading about the matrix layouts like serpetine and zigzag, but I don´t see nothing clear yet. What is the better matrix layout to use, and how wire the leds in each one? Thanks
I would say you go the physical easiest way - serpentine / zigzag layout. The rest you do in software which means you use a x/y map function translating your logical pixels to the physical ones. In the noise example from FastLED you can see how it works. And by the way: welcome here!
Thanks buddy. I will use the serpentine layout. I think is like this picture. http://www.pix6t4.com/media/PIX6T4/BlogPost/blog/building-a/10x16Segments.JPG .
Yes. Think also about connecting the 5V at multiple points, at least at the beginning and the end of your chain to limit the voltage drop.
Thanks buddy, I am placing the LED’s right now :).
+1 for your Dremel craftsmanship!
