Hi, I have a Replicator 2, and everything is fine,

Hi,

I have a Replicator 2, and everything is fine, but I noticed when I was lubricating the threaded rod there’s a ticking noise when I move the Z-axis in jog mode. It doesn’t seem to be an issue, I have no problems with my prints, but I was just wondering if others have heard this, and if it indicates a bigger problem in the future?

I did have a small thread of PLA in the Z stage at one point after a seriously failed print that clicked. I pulled some of it out, and the clicking stopped.

I don’t see anything caught in there, but I honestly don’t know where to begin taking stuff apart to find an obstruction like that. I went with a preassembled unit in the Replicator 2 because I’m a noob and didn’t want to have to troubleshoot problems born of my own incompetence in assembling it, but as a result, I just don’t have the thorough knowledge of these that some more expereinced users do.

If it is PLA it won’t cause any problems, the clicking will stop eventually.

Good to know. I only hear the clicking when I’m in jog mode, manually lowering or raising the platform for a bit of dusting and lubricating, so it may not be a problem at all.

It could be the z motor is powering off when not making any movement. That’s a feature that many reprap firmwares use to keep drivers cool and not draw as much power, but seldom used anymore. Check by trying to turn the screw by hand after jogging. If it turns freely after a manual jog move then that’s what it is, no worries though
