Hi, I just upgraded by K40 with cohesion board and I am really struggling

hi @raykholo @cprezzi @Ariel_Yahni_UniKpty Gents, I have still not got anywhere. Tried following today:

  1. Replaced M3 in GCODE Start field to M4S0 but the laser did not fire at all. I carried out test on the 10% gradient palette and one of my own files.
  2. Changed the Laser PWM setting in Config file from 20 to 200 and then 400, nothing happened. The test you recommended Ray on the Troubleshooting page just moved the laser head from one point to another as per the commands but the laser did not fire at all. The current indication on the front of k40 did not move at all on this test with 200 and 400 settings and after replacing M3 with M4S0.
I still get black patches the size of the design I want to raster.

Pls could you advice what else could I try.

This soung\ds like a hardware issue, can you post images of your connections please

By the way I also replaced the firmware and Config file on the SD card with the latest version on drop box and tried but it did not help.

There is no M3 required anymore. How did you wire the machine/ board? Let’s see pictures please.

So… You have an original batch board. It should say v2.2 on the bottom.
A few things are happening. In short, with the original config file you weren’t getting any PWM output. With the current config file, you’re not getting any fire.
What you need to do is rewire the L wire… the easiest way, I’m assuming your power supply has screw terminals? Disconnect the current L wire from the PSU (I believe it is the rightmost one, and it goes to the large 4 pin white connector), and run a separate loose wire from L on the PSU to P2.5 - which is the 4th screw terminal from the left on the bottom row. Please post pics so I can verify.

I haven’t had to explain this one in a while

Then, the latest config from the dropbox should work.

The config having the period of 20 is what prompted me to realize this and look up your order date… If you hadn’t found that and mentioned it, I may not have realized…

Thanks Ray, yes I bought it around Dec last year or around that time and then lost my workshop so had to keep it in storage for half a year. Didn’t realise it myself, should’ve mentioned earlier. I’ll make the changes and post it tomorrow.

Hi @raykholo , Pls see the images after connections suggested by you. The original rightmost wire on PSU has been replaced by an extra red wire and connected to the 4th blue terminal from bottom left on the Cohesion board. let me know if you want any more pictures taken.

Looks good.

Hi Ray, is it normal for the BIN file to become CUR file once uploaded on the SD card. I formatted the SD card, copied the files from dropbox and when I connect the cohesion board to laptop, i see the Firmware.BIN has become Firmware.CUR.

Yeah, that’s how you know the firmware flashed properly.

Success :-). Thanks a ton Ray, Ariel, Claudio.

Ray, one more question pls. I’ll test it for few more days and in the mean time, I am beginning to prepare framework to increase the cutting area. pls could you advice where could I increase the limits of the cutting area and is there any limits on how big the cutting area could be. I am thinking of creating a cutting area approximately the size of A1 or qurter of the 8x4 plywood sheet.

I cut the tube at the bottom of the left shaft and was able to get another 5mm of Y travel. If you are keeping the max endstop for Y then you need to change the config beta max value for that amt so that your Y0 value at the front of the machine is accurate. Or you know, rebuild the whole thing. Full mod.
