Hi, I’m building a Kossel style rep rap and I was wondering if anyone here know about using these type of rails end to end to make a larger rail, because I can only seem to find them in smallish lengths. I was worrying if there would be any layer problems were that join, any help is appreciated.
I’m going to say it’s doable, but you’ll loose some accuracy. Also, be careful not to remove the slide from the rail unless you’re sure it’s not going to drop its bearings. (I learned that one the hard way)
Been there, done that (dropping the bearings. Painful, painful, painful). As for joining the lengths, no matter how carefully you align them, you will always get a small jump/click/thud when the carriage traverses them.
Rails similar to those can be had in longer lengths, but I don’t know any specific supplier. I’ve found a lot on eBay, some used pulls, some sellers selling new, but they’re clearing because it is old stock (new old stock).
