Hi! I’m building a SmartRapCore for my daughter, and I’ve just started testing it. I’ve run into two issues I was hoping I could get some help with.

The first is the LCD only lights up when USB is plugged in. I’m thinking from what I’ve read it could be a bad 5V regulator.

(Edit: I have figured out the issue below. I had the acceleration for Z and E set to 2!, which was causing my slow down.)

The second issue is show in the attached video. The printer sounds like it’s trying to accelerate too much and gets throttled. The print speed for the first layer is set to 30mm/sec. I’ve got acceleration set to 2000mm/s on x and y. The Z also makes the same noise. When I home X/Y it moves normally. When I home Z it does the weird acceleration sound. I’m starting to wonder if it’s a communication issue. I’ve noticed that killing a job takes much longer than it should. Also, upon boot it takes the board a bit to boot up. Maybe I’ve got a bad Mega?

Thanks in advance!

That LCD issue is 99.99% from a bad linear regulator. If this is running on a RAMPS/Mega 2560 then you might wanna stock up on those regs. I blew 3 within a year. 12V to 5V is just an aggressive step down for a linear regulator which causes them to burn up

@Griffin_Paquette is this regulator on the RAMPS board or on the Mega?

It’s on the mega. Looks like this:missing/deleted image from Google+

I can’t remember the exact model but they are extremely inexpensive. (Literally $1 for 100 from china)

The bed for this isn’t from a printrbot simple makers kit by chance is it? I have a million of them lying around and have thought about trying out a corexy so maybe I could combine them to something like this. I like your size choice.

@Griffin_Paquette That’s exactly where the bed, some of the motors, and the Linear rods and rails came from.

@Griffin_Paquette BTW, I discovered actual travel is closer to 90x90x150. I thing the X carriage could probably be consolidated a tad to give more room.
