Hi! I’m getting more and more interested in concept of technological unemployment. I wrote a blog spot about it http://diy3dprinting.blogspot.com/2015/05/rise-of-3d-printing-factories-and.html and I hope it will be the first in the series exloring the topic. Since you guys are heavily involved with technology as I am, I wonder what are your thoughts about it? Are we headed for the future where technology will cause massive unemployment? Do you even think it’s an issue? What are your predictions or plans?
Very cool
Check out CGP Grey’s video called Humans Need Not Apply–it’s basically a brilliant video that discusses the entire concept of automation replacing humans: https://youtu.be/7Pq-S557XQU
@Ishaan_Gov I saw it some time ago. It was one of the things that got me interested!
@Nathan_Walkner , the key nowadays is that automation is getting in to the realms of replacing the human mind, not the human body, having unimaginable consequences

@Nathan_Walkner , The key is that automation may expand to fields not related simply to manufacturing. This means that these “bots” could potentially take the place of skilled labor, such as doctors and enginners
The whole “only THREE WORKERS” is seen in the huge data centres as well, where one person can maintain tens if not hundreds of thousands of servers with ease. It makes us on-location server people pretty much obsolete as it were, since it’s cheaper to rent the needed server space.
Well I saw an article today that the labour participation in the USA was 69.45 percent, which is the lowest percentage since 1977.
@Nathan_Walkner actually: http://io9.com/chinas-manufacturers-are-shifting-towards-zero-labor-fa-1702000971
@Nathan_Walkner dude, it just happened
!
anyway, jobs are disappearing all over the world. China-USA it probably doesn’t matter … i heard some people referring to something called “Chimerica”, that it is basically a unified economic system … it is also probably true for any state in the world …
@Lav_Radis you’re totally right, the whole world will be an interconnected economy for better or worse.
@Nathan_Walkner A fair amount of durable goods for the US market are being moved from China to Mexico. The advantages of manufacturing durable goods in China has been evaporating for the last couple of years. Electronics will likely stay over there as the infrastructure is massive but other durable goods are coming back to North America. China is facing wage pressure (Mexico is now cheaper) and is starting to get more difficult to fill the jobs that are available.
