Hi, I’m new to FastLED and trying to get the set of lights I bought to work. Here are the lights I purchased: Amazon.com: ALITOVE WS2811 Addressable LED Pixel Light 50pcs 5V 12MM Digital Dream Color Diffused RGB LED Pixels Module Round Black Wire IP68 Waterproof : Tools & Home Improvement

They are WS2811 chipset and I have been having a hard time getting the LEDs to do what I want with my Arduino UNO. I am using latest software for FastLED and Arduino.

I’ve started simple by just trying to light up the first LED in Red by using the stock example .ino, however, the whole strip lights up red. I have tried using different colors, different LED positions (as in first, second, or third LED in the strip).

I’m pretty sure I have wiring set up correctly. Using pin #6, drawing power from Arduino 5v pin. It doesn’t seem to matter whether the ground is in or not. I’ve tried it both ways and it only changes the brightness.

Any help would be appreciated, let me know if I should provide more info, pictures, less info…

A circuit diagram would be nice. For instance, how exactly is everything powered? Trying to power 50 LED’s from your 5V pin is excessive. I’d be powering the Arduino and the LED’s directly from a 5V power supply and tie all the grounds together.

Trying to power 50 pixels from the Arduino’s 5v pin could overload the pin and burn it out.
