Hi, I'm trying to improve prints on my Mendel90 with E3D v6.

Hi, I’m trying to improve prints on my Mendel90 with E3D v6. This cube is 10x10mm and was printed with 0.1mm layer height, fan on. As you see I have some vertical ripples. On one side of the cube and some smaller horizontal inconsistency on layers. Belts are as far as I know tightened enough but can’t be sure.

What speed are you running? I find I get those unless I run 15mm’s or less on my Mendel90. Its not great at high speeds.

30mm/s perimiters, 60mm/s infill
, trying now with 15/30

Lowering speed helped, no more ripples, thank you

What you can do (depending on your slicer) is 15mm/s on edges then faster such as 40mm/s on infil.

Looks like the infil is pushing the outer shell, so the ripples could be the infill “shining through”.
Could be over extrusion, here is a good guide about calibration, http://reprap.org/wiki/Triffid_Hunter’s_Calibration_Guide Check the “E Steps Fine Tuning” section of the guide.
A quicker fix could be to print with a thicker shell, 2-3xnozzle size should do But i’d still suggest you calibrate the extrusion, takes some time but well worth it.

These ripples are due to the extruder motor not having enough force to push the filament. I have had a similar issue in the past. The only way to get rid of it is either slow down the print speed or to increase the hot end temperature. the horizontal ripples are due to z wobble.

I don’t agree with you guys. That’s obviously ringing. If it was infill or extruder pressure it wouldn’t increase at the corner. I do agree the horizontal ones could be Z wobble though.
