Hi, working on calibrating my PrintrBot Simple. Anyone knows what would cause the layers not to stick and bad print like this ?
As you get round lines i would say that you need to get the print head a bit lower or print the first layer thicker.
I’m fairly new to this, but I have a PrintrBot Simple as well.
The two reasons I can think of for layers not sticking together are:
1- Z-axis steps/mm not calibrated in firmware (unless you already calibrated this, it’s likely not correct for a new PB-S; mine were pretty far off)
2- Temperature too low (I don’t think this is the problem, judging by how well your skirt has printed.)
Thanks, I’ll give that a shot.
Try wiping your tape down with a paper towel soaked in acetone. I have some PLA that will stick no matter what and some that need the alcohol prep
The stick to the painter is fine. The 1st layer as well as the skirt adhere very well. It’s the subsequent layers that do not stick to their layer before.
Note that I did try cleaning the painter tape with iso-alcool and it does make a HUGE difference. So much that with surface cleaned with it the print is hard to remove.
if its a layer adhesion issue try printing at lower step thickness. If your using a .4 nozzle you cant print much thicker then 3.3. I use .2 with great results. Also you may need to up your extrusion temps
General rule of thumb for layer height is <80% of your nozzle width. Make sure your X/Y/Z/E steps per mm are calibrated correctly. If it’s a Printrbot, I’m sure they have some perfectly fine default values somewhere; I believe that they come preprogrammed with the correct values as-is.
Past that, check to make sure your filament diameter, and nozzle diameter are set correctly in whatever program you’re using to slice the model.
@ThantiK X - Y - Z seems obvious - but what exactly is the E steps?
Oh - extruder movement - right?
@Rojer_Wisner yep.
Ok, my X, Y and Z are at ±0.1mm which I think is good no ?
Ok, my extruder tension was way too soft. Adjusted it not trying a print to see how it goes.
That was part of it in sure. And .1 mm is fine. That’s the range most people can repeatedly measure with calipers if it makes you feel better
