Hmm PETG advertised as Black,

Hmm PETG advertised as Black, by @rigid.ink https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B017BREP3W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I was after Solid Black PETG (my usual brand was out of stock) and going by the image it looks that way, but it’s translucent, so it comes out like the image below. Wouldn’t have minded so much if it was actually advertised as translucent. Welp, looks like I’m off to buy another spool from another manufacturer, which will most likely be @Extrudr

Excuse the nails, combination of Blue hair dye and Blue Woodstain…

The problem is, if you add too much colorant - the material starts to change properties. Usually what’s used to color filament black is just a really dark indigo, or carbon black.

@ThantiK more a dig at the way it was advertised. Both 3D Prima and Extrudr do an opaque Black in PETG and advertise the transparent filaments as Transparent. I have no issue with the way the filament prints, more the fact of the way it was sold. It just means I have a colour that I’ll need to advertise on my sites to recoup the money to get the correct colour in.

The thing is, that all rigid.ink PETG filaments are translucent. Black too. You bought via amazon with a bad description, so just claim it…

If all PETG is translucent, does it paint well? If so, what do you paint it with?

@Rene_Jurack - yeah ultimately it is my fault, just a bit frustrated with the ad and myself, as my print queue is a bit large and requires solid black. I’ve found a use for the transparent anyways.

@NathanielStenzel - Not all PETG is translucent.

@Ax_Smith-Laffin I’ve personally found @rigid_ink to be very customer focused and good to deal with, as well as providing high quality filament. Have you been in touch with them about this?

Not on this occasion. It’s not so big an issue as I’ve found a use for the spool. I may just drop them a line just to mention it though.

Hi @Ax_Smith-Laffin - I’d just like to apologize about the lack of transparency (pun intended) in our Amazon description of our PETG colours. At the moment, all our PETG colours are translucent - and we need to show this more clearly in the photos.

So thank you for bringing this to our attention.

It looks like you’re still going to use it, but to try to make this up to you, I’m going to refund £10 from your order and can you let me know a selection of 5 x (10m) samples you’d like that I can send out to you - they can be anything and any colour we do (everyone loves our PLA Plus at the moment as a suggestion).

I hope that’s acceptable, and look forward to seeing what other stuff you print!

All the best,
Ed

@rigid_ink - Ed, thanks, not necessary, but much appreciated. I have actually dropped a message via the contact form on the website, my e-mail address should be attached. If you drop me a message there, I’ll let you know. It is companies like yourselves and E3D amongst others that make 3D Printing what it should be.

No problem - we’re just trying to enable people to make the best stuff they can, in an easy, hassle free way. Looking forward to hearing what you think of the PLA Plus, think you’ll like it.
