How big is the largest OX?

How big is the largest OX?

Wow, the deflection on that must be in the order of inches at the center of the X axis.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Yeah, that thing would flap around like a wet noodle. Where the heck did he get extrusions that long?

MetalGuru

This would be fine for a laser though…

Even with a Laser, acceleration would likely cause enough deflection to make it unusable except at very low speeds… You’d even have difficulty maintaining focus from the center of the X axis to the outsides.

You guys are brilliant! You all have hit on the correct points, BUT, there is no spindle attached to this build, and in the application it will be used, it will move slow compared what we typically use it for. I believe I might get in trouble for releasing information too early, really hope this team gets their application up and running soon as it is very exciting.
The extrusions are stock with machined ends and custom joiners, in this application the joints are actually stronger than the extrusion. Hope to be able to provide more information towards the end of this year.

Something that takes that much space can cause a divorce unless of course this is a cutter that will cut the latest dress patterns from a bolt of cloth. That might save you.

Maybe it’s a painting machine??? A little wobble and deflection wouldn’t really affect it.

Yeah, just stick one of those upside down spray cans on it and you could do sidewalk art…

@Darrell_n Or even an air brush sprayer. You can control the width with a z-axis change and probably get some good detail. You could even stand it against a wall. I would name it Muralbot or Tagbot

I’ve sold Oxen to air brush artist, tattoo artist (image that mesh Gcode) drag kniffers, all that you guys have hinted at but nope. Gosh, wish I could say, the Z will be supported though and this is not full X/Y length of final.

How does one make joints with this extruded Al that won’t bow? 1” carbon steel rod precisely machined may be one idea. There are others though.

I’ll stop, I’ll get myself in a bind.
