How do you all handle PLA delivered per meter and not on a roll? (e.g. Faberdashery). I printing on an @Ultimaker

Ping @Gregor_Luetolf ?

Ping @Peter_Parnes , I printed 10m Filament from Faberdashery free hanging, and for the 100m I got in last month I’m thinking of using a half-empty 2.5kg Spool to put it on.

OK. I have 100m lengths mostly but no 2.5Kg spool

have a look for the spool design to print that is based on the aproach that the inner diameter justifies itself by the amounth of filament left on the spool

A plate with a post in the middle will work if the plate is horizontal and the feed path is such that the filament will not jump the post. It takes up more room that a spool but allows you to toss a loose filament coil over post and go. I used an old cookie (biscuit) tin cover that was perfect size and a heavy can.

Thanks. Printing right now by just having the pile on the table.

I’ve printed with loose pla, hated having to constantly spin the roll, otherwise the filament tangles and breaks

Print a jenny…

@Alex_Swavely_helifin sorry, what’s a jenny? I have a spoil holder on my printer but, my first filament buy was lose filament and I didn’t have a spoil to wind it onto. I now have a loose 1lb spool from work, but I’ve been luckily using my 1kg bought spool

@Eric_Moy A jenny is a device to hold loose coiled goods (wire, etc) which rotates as the goods are paid out. Here is one example of a printable jenny: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:132822

I already tried this jenny from thingiverse. The problem this design has is, that it does not adapt to the filament left. I switched back to just let the filament lay on the desk.

@Alex_Swavely_helifin ah yes, I’ve tried to print a couple spools/Jenny’s but sadly my home printer cannot yet print mating parts, the tolerances are currently laughable

Swifts are easily made, too:

Thanks, looks interesting, but I’d have to rig something to allow it to spin, so I just grabbed an empty spill out of the garbage from work. I opted the lazy route. Thanks though
