how do you keep the charcoal from getting everywhere?
Air-assist minimises it, as does masking the area off with painter’s tape.
Also lower power or faster speed so you’re cutting through but not over cutting which lets it burn more. You should try using the lowest power& highest speed whenever you’re cutting.

@David_Spencer you mean off your hands? If you cut low & fast you’ll minimize the charcoal. Also a wipe with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) will help.
Different woods have different amounts. Birch ply seems to have more than solid woods too.
