How many of you have printed a gear and worm drive set? When printing the worm drive was it laid out horizontally or stood vertical? The gear prints fine but worm drive is always a mess horizontal even with support material so the print gets aborted early. Maybe I need to slice in something other than Slic3r? Or give up with gears and switch to belts.
I have not tried it, but my instinct tells my if printing in ABS or PLA to do the worm gear vertically. But I don’t know really.

No experience with printing a worm drive but I’ve printed similarly small parts, have you enabled cooling in Slic3r? I would also try vertical but the angle of the tooth profile is way over the 45 degree threshold.
Have you tried seeing what Meshmixer does for an orientation?
I have printed them vertically and worked well using cura, slic3r was not good

And if Cura fails, take a look at Simplify3d. It’s not for free but very good with support structures. For me it’s one of the most advanced slicers available.
