I am contemplating upgrading the gadgetry on my Printrbot LC. Does anyonebhave any thoughts. This ynit has the 6x6 heatbed and the aluminum extruder as well as the z axis stabilizers. It’s still mostly wood and my objective is to replace the original board but wonder what might be compatible. Why? Because I want to amd because that Printrboard is discontinued. Anyone? @Brook_Drumm ​?

Newer printrboard should be a drop in replacement. Or you can choose from any other controller, like ramps, smoothie, azteeg, etc.

I’m in the same boat with my LC +. Looking for an upgrade path. Printrboard should be the last thing you need to upgrade. I’m not sure what you mean by discontinued.

My simple works so well compared to the LC +.

I have an original board, that’s why I am looking to upgrade. I suppose I can buy a newer Printrboard or use any of the Sanguino, Melzi or RAMPS boards I have lying around. Come to think of it, I do have a nice Melzi I can put to use…hmmmm

It doesn’t make much sense to replace a working board with something with the same capability.

Samer the Rev d board is virtually the same as the original board. what do you think you are missing?

I may stick with my early Printrboard and run it off S3D…

@Samer_Najia ​ yeah the printrboard swap won’t buy you any improvement. I would think updating the frame, adding auto level induction sensor, going to direct drive extruder should help you. S3d will help minimally but won’t correct for any mechanical issues obviously, I use s3d but really cura will get you 90% of the same output. Again I think if you want to upgrade, they should be mechanical changes.

@Mike_DiMare ​​ I suppose I can also repurpose the parts. I do have the all aluminum direct drive extruder, z stiffener and other enhancements already.

@Samer_Najia ​ ah ha, yeah I was thinking about that too, try and get a lulzbot taz layout or something. What do you feel is missing from your bot now?

@Mike_DiMare ​, nothing is missing. I am just driven by the irrational need to keep improving, updating, modifying, hacking. I have plenty of bigger and better printers and this little one seemed neglected and in need of geek attention.

@Samer_Najia ​ Gotcha I feel the same need sometimes. Hopefully you get some suggestions since I’ll be doing the same.
