What do you need help with

For example, what kinds of 3D printers are there?

@sanjuro_ogawa many kinds!
The 3 main types of 3D-printers are:

  • SLS Printers
  • FDM Printers
  • Resin Printers

SLS is S elective L aser S intering and that’s mostly what’s used on these super expensive 3D printers like those at shapeways. It uses powerful lasers to sinter powder into a 3D model.
Then there’s FDM, F used D epositing M odelling which is what’s used in most RepRaps. It melts plastic and extrudes it layer by layer.

Resin printers use liquid resin and a projector or laser to cure it into hard plastic. This is what’s used in the Formlabs Form1 printer for instance.

If you want to get started with 3D printing then it’s FDM printers you should be looking at. You can either build a RepRap yourself or buy one.
Hope that wasn’t too much information for you to handle :stuck_out_tongue:

Have a look at http://reprap.org

@sanjuro_ogawa
There are the FDM (molten plastic) machines and the SLA machines (solidified liquid), other types are almost only for industrial use.
