I am new to 3d printing. I have a bone replica that I’m trying to print, but i an unable to print due to the surface area of the bone. How can I be able to print a Tibia bone>
Hi @Jim_Bun could we ask what do you mean exactly by not being able to print “due to the surface area of the bone”?
From the images you supplied we can see that you will require supports. If the print its self is too larger then we would suggest cutting the model into sections and after printing them all out glueing them together. This may also reduce the need for supports.
What do you require the model for?
witch type of printer have you?
I have a Lulzbot Taz 6. I will try what you guys have suggest on the post.
I’m no expert. But my first thought is to lay it horizontally and use supports.
Thanks, I try that one next for my other bones. These are replicas of Lucy the early human.
The sliding bed makes that part tougher to build than it needs to be, the leverage and high center of mass would try to dislodge it from the table as the table shakes Y+ and Y-. I would second placing the part horizontally. Either whole with supports or half above half below, then flip it, glue the halves together.
I printed a downsized set of more recent human leg bones a couple years ago Meshlab will reduce the stl file size if you need it, then netfabb (either download or online) can reorient it to horizontal. You’ll still need support but try rotating the bone sections to minimize the amount of support removal you’ll need to do.
Where’d you get the source file(s) from?
@Kirk_Yarina This is the site that I took it from
This is a bone from Lucy hominid.
@Kirk_Yarina I making this bone for my professor who request it for class.
