I am shopping for a spindle capable of spinning 1/4" and 1/8" end mill bits. I want it to be quiet. My material is soft foam so I want the fastest speed possible to minimize tearing.
Would you recommend the quiet spindle 400W by Inventables with their $35 spindle speed controller? I see some sellers on amazon and ebay selling something similar and includes the mount as well but I am not sure how quiet these are.
This is for a custom machine with OpenBuilds parts. I welcome all recommendations but I am narrowing down currently to:
You can def find spindles for cheaper than what Inventables is offering. Also not that their DC spindle controller is only good for the 300W spindle they are offering.
As for noise, air cooled spindles will always be a fair bit noisier than the water cooled options. I’d say its about on par with noise you get from a basic hand router.
For foam, with the right bit and speeds/feeds, you shouldn’t have too much tearing either. Though if you want it to be faster, yeah by all means higher RPMs to match the faster feed.
