I am trying to print test objects to test various calibration settings. Notice that this print has point edges. Any thoughts on what is causing this?

Thanks

Overextrusion. Check your extrusion calibration and your filament diameter.

It also depends on if the correct height is in the center or at the points. While it technically is over extrusion, it could be that the printer isn’t moving up as far as it should which would make the model shorter than you expect. Still, you should calibrate your extruder before calibrating anything else.

I always like Step 1 from this guide: http://richrap.blogspot.com/2012/01/slic3r-is-nicer-part-1-settings-and.html

FWIW, I had weird results like this when I played around with different print settings such as cranking up the print temp and printing without a fan. I noticed that the filament would look like this and also seem to collapse on itself since it wasn’t getting actively cooled. This was w/ PLA.

Definitely over extrusion. What is your infill settings? I found that if you can print 100% infill without any deformation then the extrusion is likely correct.

Here is another… One I like to share with anyone starting…

@Stephanie_A I was setting Infill at 10% to conserve filament. When you say “over extrusion” do you mean feedrate?

yes, they’re referring to the step rate of the extruder motor and the likelihood it’s providing more filament than asked for.
