I bought an Anet A8 a few weeks ago and have had issues with the bed being warped since day one. I am forced to either build a raft every time, or keep an extra close eye on the print in the beginning to make sure the parts are building okay. It is a 220mm x 220mm heated aluminum bed. So I was wondering what a recommended replacement would be. I know very little about these things and have maybe 40 hours of print time on the machine.
Sorry for the bad photos. For the life of me, I cant figure out how to get my HTC A9 phone to take a good picture under LED track lighting.
Some upgrade parts I have been making:
You could try putting a thin glass on top. Most people fix the plate using large clips.
Blue tape will hold glass well also.
@Dushyant_Ahuja How thick of glass should I buy?
I believe a thin borosilicate glass is the best. Haven’t used this on my printer - so can’t confirm
I use 2.5mm plain window glass. I’ve used the same piece for 2.5 years without a problem. Cost less than $2 and was cut to size for free at Lowe’s. I’ve printed on it as hot as 110C with no problems.
Same here, plain window glass 6mm thick. I’ve heard borosilicate glass will fracture in time while plain glass seems to just keep going. One case where cheaper ends up better
@Michael_Boquist are you worried it will self replicate and come alive or is the cage to stop pets jumping on it?
Probably to kep the kids away or pets lol.
The cage thing is actually a shelving system that I put over it to hold a yoga mat for when I need to run it all night and dont want to hear the motors run as loudly. Eventually, I’ll make a proper sound-proof box out of plywood.
I stopped in at a local glass shop and purchased a few 8.625" x 8.625" pieces of 1/8" glass. They should be ready for me to pick up after work today.
Good idea
I bought some 1/8" glass from the local shop. It definitely made an improvement.
I also insulated the bed with Ceramic Fiber Insulation Blanket Paper Sheet 610x300x1mm http://r.ebay.com/IQpwDD and a piece of sheet metal to hold it in place. I dont see the bed temperature fluctuating as much anymore.
