I could use some advice on printing Protoparadigm PLA Natural 3mm on a Lulzbot

I could use some advice on printing Protoparadigm PLA Natural 3mm on a Lulzbot TAZ1. My perimeter print speed is 90mm/s and temp is 185. The hot end seems to catch the layer below and either the heat or the force of the slight contact bumps it off the blue tape. Thoughts

185 seems low

Part of it is not sticking to the blue tape I think. Do you all recommend going with a heated plate with Protoparadigm filament? Ideas on temps?

Ivan, any recommended starting temps for PLA? Thanks for your advice!

My guess would be Amboy 60-70c but I really don’t know.

Thanks for all your advice! I’m back on the road to successful printing.

There was a discussion in the UFID group about this. @Whosa_whatsis mentioned that the bed temp seems to be closely correlated with the glass transition temperature (Tg). This does makes allot of sense as when the material crosses that point it should experience a structural change (ie could expand or contract non linearly) so keeping the entire print above Tg will insure that the material is in one region of the curve for the entire print process. For example a normal Tg for PLA is 55-65, is about 105. (hence my guess of 60-70C for the heated bed for pla)

So far I’m making it with an unheated bed and a hot end of 202. Still working on getting all the prints to perfectly work out. The hot end still seems to be snagging the previous layer even with a 0.2 Z direction between travels.

Could it also ve controlled in slic3r to reduce diameter? This is a .35 nozzle extruding at .315.
