I designed the tessellating pattern long before I got into 3D printing and once I saw you could get heat reactive filament I thought it would be a neat idea to make a coaster that changed colour. The reason the petals are inlaid is because you need to use a plastic glue to ensure that the ABS and PLA stick together. I have found ABS doesn’t like to stick to anything much, particularly cold surfaces. I also wanted the challenge of making two models that had to fit together.

The heat reactive filament is interesting because for ABS it has to be a high temperature but too high and you can cook the dye.

I printed it in my Ordbot and I used Blender to make it. I’ve had people buy these so I am quite happy with it:-)

I used ABS for the petals because it will handle the heat better, but used PLA for the base because it doesn’t warp like ABS.

good on you… and nice design

Nice!
