I do think that people tend to look too negatively towards new tech. I’m an optimist!

I just read that article. I think many people forget Jevons paradox when thinking about efficiency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jevons_paradox
So basically, if something is made cheaper by 3d printing, the total consumption will not fall but rise since it is cheaper and in end more energy will be used.
It is just an general remark, future is, as always, unpredictable …
