reprap #3DPrinting I don’t know how? Why? What’s wrong? My X - axis A4988 Stepper driver went on fire. Fortunately Ramps board works fine after replacing pololu.
Ouch! Looks like you need some replacement smoke! http://www3.telus.net/bc_triumph_registry/smoke.htm
(Just spotted this link off a Hackaday article today. Made my day…)
Hi, after similar issues I’ve put a cooler fan above the board and heat-sinks on the chips. I suggest You do the same…
How many hours did you use it? VTMOT and GND are on the pins next to that if I understand right. Too mavy volts or amps maybe a short at the motor let it draw more power or maybe the board was not put together right if it was relatively new. I am no expert with those things. I never used one, but I was bored so I looked up the product. https://www.pololu.com/product/1182
Situation was:
- before it was printing continuously, it actually caught fire when I manually moved the axis.
- No cooler fan.
If you must manually move a motor, move it slowly or disconnect it first. I have heard that there are protections that can be placed in the circuits and that there was someone advertising a separate circuit add-on last year, but for most of us the circuut would not be necessary and a number of us doubted if the extra circuit was worth it.
Finally a relief, What not to do. Thanks all, for your response
